I just saw the word 'unhinged' used on this forum. While I, myself, didn't become unhinged upon reading it, let me explain the difference. Unhinged is the word used in Australia. It might be used in Britain and elsewhere, but if you visit Glenn Stephens' board, down under, everyone there is unhinged. Here, in the United States, we prefer never hinged. To clarify, a never hinged stamp has never had a hinge applied to its backside. An unhinged stamp is what you might find laying loose in your album when a lightly hinged stamp separates from its fastener. That's right, it becomes unhinged.

Good point, Modern. When I hear the word 'unhinged' I also think of people, not stamps. |

Unhinged unfortunately is very true. Those little bits of hinge on gummed stamps cost a lot of money. A very happy family with the family flavour of stamp community forum. K.G.V and family. |

Never thought of the possible difference. If described as unhinged, there is the possibility that it was indeed hinged at one time. Never hinged removes any ambiguity.
Having said that, there is also the possibility that all of us are slightly unhinged. |

There must be a T-shirt somewhere that says "Stamp Collectors are Better Unhinged" |

We have had this discussion before somewhere but I cannot find it. Anyway, I have just lost my temper for the first time since 2004 and boy, does it feel good. So I was feeling a bit unhinged but now I am OK. In the UK , MNH is mostly found as UM or UnM or UMM. Hardly ever seen Unhinged used but of course it is all in the terminology so it';s possible. Quote: We have had this discussion before somewhere but I cannot find it. Maybe it was somewhere else. I don't remember it and couldn't find it, but then probably no else did either. And even if it was, so what? Many things here get repeated as new people come onboard. And depending on how it is presented and who is active at the time, response will be vary. This is a discussion board and not a reference library. |

If I have to get my posts approved then so be it. If not, please do not make comments to start an argument. It might work on some other boards with others, but not with me. I am not the argumentative type.
You posted something similar somewhere just now, albeit two weeks out of date. There was no need for it there, and there is no need for it here. Again, read this post. I was not complaining and you know it. What has happened to you today ? All I wanted to do was to compere comments. If that is wrong then I truly apologize .
