Hi Tina,
I do
ebay but have never (yet) got an email telling e the scary news that people have been using my PayPal account or anything.
It sounds like a phishing email to me, just to start off with. If you clicked on a link in the email to get to PayPal did you notice what the URL was? If you still have the email then move the mouse over any link in the email and see what pops up (at the bottom of the screen(?)) as the URL that the link will direct you to. If it does not say paypal.com but something else.com then it is Not PayPal at all but someone trying to get your account info. Bad pirates of the
ebay! Bad. I get these emails once in a while and have learned to just ignore any email from PayPal that I am not expecting and to go to PayPal from a link in my bookmarks (that I put there) or to type the URL in myself.
But . . . if that was an OK link and everything is OK from a no-pirates-here-today point of view, then it is still a safe thing and good idea to change you bank account as you did, congratulations! and to change your passwords, on PayPal and
ebay. and to check in your
ebay account for info stored there about your PayPal account (if it is there, they used to want it all, but I haven't looked lately) I haven't changed my password lately either (I should, I know, lazy)
Go to your My
ebay / Account tab / PayPal Account / and further links from there on in.
As for that first payment from a buyer, did it go to your old PayPal account name? As that would have been shown to the buyer as it would have been recorded / shared with
ebay that they would have used when they sent a paying reminder to the buyer.
As you can tell I am a bit paranoid (perhaps too much) about PayPal /
ebay but I have not yet (knock on wood, my head!) been caught out by the bad guys.
I know it is easy to panic and react quickly if you see a situation that need immediate attention (or have been led to think so). But, from experience, it is better safe than sorry to wait a bit or just cancel everything and start over. Which you have done mostly. I think I should have had you teach me in the beginning years ago!
Sorry to be slow at responding.
Doug
