I got these 4 stamps (Scott #225-228) in a pack of miscellaneous stuff. The envelope they were in said "redrawn". Nothing in Scotts catalog mentions these 4 stamps as being "redrawn"(at least not that I can see). Can someone enlighten me? Are they fakes, real?

My copies of Scott Classic and SG British Empire are similarly silent.

Maybe they are exactly what they look like (Scott #225-228)and not "redrawn" as someone else thought. At any rate, they are in what looks like pristine condition (at least to my untrained eye). Hmm.

Redrawn -- A stamp design that has been slightly altered yet maintains the basic design as originally issued.

Maybe there were subsequent printings of these stamps ?
Or maybe the redrawn was a reference to the 1d and 2d Mauritius ?

Or maybe I'm simply clutching at straws ??

Londonbus1....the last one most likely !

They are beautiful stamps. They were engraved by Bradbury, Wilkinson in the grand tradition of stamp printing, unlike much of what was being issued at the time. I'm certain what you have is genuine. (The ink should stand up a bit off the paper, if you want to be sure.)

They don't catalog for a lot, but that takes nothing away from them.

Thanks Londonbus1. Maybe the person who wrote on the envelope, didn't really know what they were doing, maybe they did. At any rate, they are nice and I think I'll keep them, just make a notation in my album about this.

Thanks Cjd - yes the ink does stand up a bit. They have a nice matte finish and don't appear worn. The 1R and 20c show a very slight hinge spot, the other 2 show nothing. The gum appears to be in good shape (or maybe it was regummed). But I LIKE them.

They are beautiful stamps, but just as importantly, they are interesting and grab your attention. They are definitely keepers.

I find on occaisions stamps are placed in bags, glassine and otherwise,
that held previous issues, and the collector has failed to
re mark the bags, I suspect that has happened here.
I get Machins in "Upper Volta" bags etc.
