So many great threads around at present, and I just haven't had the time to contribute much. Another great one, thanks Philb and Bujutsu for the boost !

King George V was indeed the most avid of Philatelists/collectors, and spent much time studying. He purchased wisely at auction, often having to sell items from the collection to pay for them. Let us not forget that all members of the Royal family have money to spend ! KGV chose to spend his on stamps.
Let us also not forget that the King or Queen of Great Britain and the Commonwealth received stamps and First Day covers of all the new issues from each country, until the present day. In the time of KGV, that would have been many issues and some very nice stamps ! He also would have received Proof copies and Essays of many or most. These were not gifts as such, and I am sure there were many occasions when he had something to say about the designs !!
Parts of the Royal Collection can often be seen on display around the world. I was lucky enough to view some amazing items from The British Administration in Palestine, whilst at the Israel '98 International in Tel Aviv.
Some of the most rare items of the reign of KGV will be on display at London's Guildhall from May 7th as part of the Festival of Stamps, 2010. I will be going on the opening day and am looking forward to it immensely.
Londonbus1....God save the Queen.
