What Paper Weight For Album Pages?

I did a search but couldn't find a thread where this was covered.

I'm going to print my own album pages after years of using stockbooks. I was in an office supplies shop yesterday and looked at 100, 125 and 160gsm acid-free, 200-year archival paper.

Does anyone print their own pages, and if so, do you use white, off white, cream, and what weight? The 100 seemed too light, the 160 too heavy, but I wasn't confident to buy the 125!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am very interested as well jubilee. I have never used a hing in my stamping life. Always stockbooks but this forum is making me look outside of my square. Iam sure a great answer or two will will come up soon. KGV

Just go with what feels right to you. I'm not certain what 125gsm means. I use 24lb bond paper that has 25% cotton content and that makes it just the right stiffness for me . As long as it's archival and not too flimsy that's what matters the most.

Good point re terminology. 89gsm is 24lb bond.

It's hard to picture how an album would feel, loaded with pages, mounts and stamps when you're looking at a single sheet of paper, and it's not terribly cheap stuff!

There are many other posts about album page makers software that branch off into paper discussion.

1) Quality albums should be acid free and lignin free.

2) To compare Scott and Harris type albums and such use 24 to 40lb paper.

3) The stiffer card-stock type pages like White Ace are a range of 60 to 110lb.

I like the 80lb card-stock that some carry as it gives a good stiff album sheet.

Any clues to which one may be the one you use? Wouldn't a world-standard be lovely???

I use 67 lb acid-free card stock from Staples, and design my pages with AutoCAD.

In the US we have Office Depot, Office Max, and Staples to name a few that carry a brand called Wausau.

This brand has meet all my needs and they have many colors and textures that are acid free and such. They are also the carriers of the stiffer cardstock that I use. I think it is listed as 67lb cardstock also but will have to check later.

Like Jubilee and KGV, I have also used only Stockbooks and stockpages up to now but have the feeling for making my own oages for some parts of the collection.

I've bought some Wausau archival cotton envelopes when I started my Springpatch Local Post last year to use for my 1st issue. They were a bit pricey and I think I only used a couple. They are very good quality and have a nice weight to them.

It's really a matter of personal preference. My preference is 32# Bright White. I have not had any problems at that weight or soiling/discoloration but the pages are relatively early in their life. I use primarily hinged mounts by the way.

Kirk, no worries. In my view, it's the most flexible and idiot-proof album page site. It'll give me jutstwhat I want and nothing else.

I use(d) 65# and thought it was about right. It should hold up for years.

BTW, like the others said, use acid free.

I'm not sure what linguine free paper is though. Bobgggg should know for sure. He sounds eyetalian.

Hi Jubilee, yep, I print my own Album pages, one page per OFEC stamps.

I found out early, it all depends on your computer printer. My previous printer could handle 80gsm but starts to affect typo letter printout at 100gsm and you can hear the strain at 120gsm with 50-50 chance of completing the print.

So I got a heavier printer and now use 100gsm and A4 plastic binders with plastic sleeves where you can insert your A4 sheets with stamps on it. I settled for 100gsm A4 size, for ruggedness, plain & deep black so the stamp colors come out.
