The American Helvetia Philatelic Society (AHPS), of which I am a member, is about to publish its long-awaited book, "Philately of Switzerland - An Introductory Handbook with Multilingual Philatelic Dictionary". The society is about to decide on the size of the press run. I would be interested if members here, of the SCF, would have an interest in obtaining a copy of this book when it is released.
The following is a brief overview of the book:
Tips and guidance for new collectors of Switzerland and a reference book for the experienced collector, written and illustrated by 31 AHPS members. Hardbound volume 8 11/16 x 11 ¼ inches, with 352 pages, color scans, glossary, multilingual dictionary on CD-ROM, and dust jacket.
The Chapters in the book are: Something for Everyone The Pro Juventute Stamps The National Festival Issues Early Commemorative Issues Post-War Commemorative Issues 20th Century Definitives Self-Adhesive Stamps Cantonals First Federal Issues Strubels Sitting Helvetias Cross & Numerals Standing Helvetias Air Mails and Flights Officials Postage Dues Franchise Stamps Postal Stationery Booklets, Se-tenant, Tête-Bêche International Organizations Revenues Soldier Stamps Hotel and Telegraph Stamps Miscellaneous Issues Liechtenstein Postal History 20th Century Cancels Forgeries Errors and Varieties How to Get Started Resources Swiss Tricks and Traps
The book is expected to cost an AHPS member between $32 and $36 plus postage and handling ($5-$10/copy). Non-member cost is being tentatively set at $40 before postage and handling.
This is a book that every Swiss collector must have. And its lavish illustrations even make it a good coffee table book. If you've always wanted to explain to you non-philatelic friends why you collect Swiss stamps, this book will make them understand.
We are not prepared to sell the book now, but are looking to see the level of interest outside the Society. Please let me know if you're interested.

I would be a definite "maybe" and I would certainly check out a website for a few representative scans to get an idea of what it is, when it gets that far. (I probably wouldn't buy without a sneak peek of some sort, for what its worth.)
Congratulations on that effort. As a member of an earlier collaborative book process (not stamp related), I know how much work goes into it.

Nic,
The book is in English and represents the contributions of AHPS members, the sections being divided up between members.

That really looks like a excellent reference book. Do you have any idea how many were run off for the first publication?

Hi, Donna and all!
The print run was 350. About 25 copies will be donated to the major philatelic libraries and used as entries in philatelic literature competitions. About a third of the remainder were sold "pre-publication" so about 200 are available for sale now. We are hoping to sell out within 12 months and would appreciate your orders!

Since Bruce had last left his message I have received my copy of the book, Philately of Switzerland. I have also read a good portion of it.
In my opinion it is an extremely good work and that many serious collectors would be wise to obtain and read. Even if you don't collect Switzerland. The coverage of the topic is broad, it is accessible to the beginner in Swiss stamp, yet will inform even a seasoned collector. Its an example of stamp writing at its very best.
The book is also very well produced, the paper weight is good and the illustrations are first rate.
