I'm glad that's solved it was starting to worry me. There's a lot of info on the web about whether the 12 or 24 hour system is used by a particular country or region but I found very little info on how long that system might have been in place.

Do you think that would have been a changeable value on the stamp or would it have required a different stamp for each hour?

John

Hi John......

I'm fairly certain that the dial allowed for different inserts.......small date/time stamps are easier and less expensive to make than whole dials and they would have been useful for quite a long time.

HOLY SMOKES! People here don't mess around. Thanks to you all for your replies. I originally had thought that the 33 was the year but then after dating the stamp (don't tell my hubby I dated a stamp) thats when I decided against 1933 figuring it was earlier. Thanks again to all for your help.

Thanks a lot for this information.

Now I can categorize some of the cancellations in my collection.

Cheers

Some additional information - the catalogue-number is wrong. Have a look at the denomination - it reads "Pfennig" and not "Pfennige". This one was issued in 1880 first - so pretty early usage.
