Hi Everyone,
I have this stamped cover

Here's a close up of the cancel

Are Stamped covers with airport postmark something that is highly sought after or pretty common? Where do airport postmarks originate from? Is it mail that has been dropped off in the locally used mailbox outside of the airport terminal? Is it mail that has been dropped off at a local post office and then taken to the airport and dropped off by postal employee's? Is it posted on the ground or during the flight? Has anyone seen any airport cancels or postmarks similar in nature but dated within the last 5 years?

Whew! I need to stop and catch my breath.

Ut-Oh...I think I just blew a blood vessel from trying to ask to many questions at once. Thanks goodness I only have one question left. Does anyone else have this airmail label advertising Hilton Hotels?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and for any input or info you might be able to offer me.

Lucky

Hi Kathy......

After WW2 airlines went just about everywhere setting up tourists flights.....often Hotels followed or worked with them. A tourist or business person would write letters using Hotel letter sheets and drop the letters in mailboxes as they arrive at the airport.

One Of my great uncles worked for several airlines in the 40', 50's & 60's setting up tourist flights from all over the world and about once a month or so my older brother and I would receive a cigar or shoebox full of letters and cut corners. It's probably why I still get excited about mystery boxes.

2 x airport cancellations.
Singapore (borrowed from a post on this forum)
Christchurch NZ airport

My particular enjoyment is finding "Hotels" on cancellations,
early Egypt had these, very exciting to find.

PS: you have a lovely medical collection, I hope you keep it together.
The first time I have seen that etiquette, and I collect them,
very nice indeed...keep it on the cover

Thank you nr-notrare for your info. That makes a lot of sense.

Rod,do you have any examples of those Egyptian Hotel cancels (or other Countries) that you could show a scan of. I'm interested to see what they look like.

Thanks,
Kathy

Dedicated Hotel stamps exist as well, printed and issued by the hotel.

Nice scans Rod. I did a little digging today thru some covers and came up with some Hotel stuff. I'm gonna start a new topic and post some scans. Here's another Airport Postmark that I found today.
