Hi Everyone. I wanted to share some trivia with everyone. I checked out a world Atlas (2 of them actually) from the library today and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. If you are into stamped covers from all over the world or postmarks/cancel from other Countries believe me when I say it is a must have. For example: Stamps from England can be used in Ireland and Scotland as postage and I've learned that these covers are somewhat sought after. I have many covers with stamps from England used as postage but needed a reference for the name postmarked to find out which Country they were mailed from. Well the World Atlas listed the name of every city & town in the world and what Country or State that it was located in. Not to mention catching a visual of the location of Countries and Their neighboring Countries etc. really helped out.

Lucky

Yes, essential for stamping Kathy,

I like to have an Atlas, A revolving globe, and.........
a "stamp" atlas.
This is a magic collection of information.

Hi Kathy....

If you can, try to find an old bookstore......generally they have a good variety of old atlases at fairly low prices.....I find it interesting to have an atlas from different time periods to see what everyone thought the world looked like when the letters were written. Comparing a series of world maps from the 1850's, 1900's, 1950's and new one will surprise you at the changes in political boundaries over the last 170 years.

I have a huge worldwide atlas printed by the Times of London. Not only is it in English, but the maps show the local spellings for the cities, towns, bodies of water, etc. I find it most useful for worldwide stuff....

Rod I need a favor. Let me borrorw your book. Just for a couple of weeks. I swear on my 3 legged dog I will get it back to you... Well, it might take longer than 2 weeks for me to get it back. I've got an idea. You lend me the book and I will give it back when I'm done and if you need to reference something in it, let me know and I will look it up for you. That sounds like a pretty sweet deal??? Yea???? Nay??? (Tee-Hee)

Seriously though, thanks for showing a page. The name of the book suits it "The Stamp Atlas". Is this something that I can order thru a book store or should I be keeping my eyes peeled for a used copy for sale?

You are most welcome to borrow it Kathy,
I'll leave it on the front Porch.
If it is not back in three weeks, I'll sick my five legged dog.

I see this book come up once every 5 years? I think you can access pages through Sandfayre website.
The best avenue to philatelic literature is always stamp auctions
There are always books for sale, and so it's always good to join a stamp club.

Lucky,
I'm working on a new stamp atlas project myself. Mention in another tread. The atlas shown above is not bad but is incomplete and has a few errors at that. When you match this with other such atlas's you will be surprised at how much does not match up. The more you will dive into this the more you'll find it is incomplete.

Wow, well done Revstampman.

until Warrehouse' atlas comes out.
