Hi everyone,

I thought it would be interesting to see what other Members here have in there collection that relates to Hotels.

Here's a cover I have

Here's the close-up of the etiquette

I like this cover. Notice that Hotel Neptun is located in Denmark and the typed return address is Beirut, Lebanon.

Here's another cover I have.

Front

Back

I have a silly question to ask about this cover. I notice the stamps haven't been canceled. If I was living in Canada would I be able to cross out the mailing address and write in a new one and then put any additional postage needed and then mail it? Or would the other markings on the cover prevent this?

Under official Canada Post policy, the stamps would be judged to have been used once already, despite their not receiving a cancel -- the cover's markings would give them away. Of course, if one put the additional postage over the Registration stamp and the postmark, no one would likely be any the wiser, and it might just be assumed that you are a conscientious person recycling their envelope for re-use.

By a funny coincidence I'm just listing a batch of various bits and bobs on ebay and came across this thread - below is my contribution...whilst the stamps aren't hotel related, I guess the envelope from 1957 qualifies by virtue of its reverse side...?

Here's a scan of a stamped cover and a close-up of the postmark. The postmark is a Hotel Postmark. I didn't know they existed until Rod222 mentioned them and shared some scans of some. This is the one I came across today as I was digging thru some covers.

Here's a hotel related item similar to some in my collection (I don't have scans handy, but found this one on another site):

Actually, I have several from this same hotel, ranging from the 1850's thru to the 1950's, tracking the evolution of the corner card through almost 100 years... It's kind of a fun sideline to my hometown collection.

Thanks Lucky,
that res is OK.
Did you notice the swap between the strike and the cover?
BANARAS v BARANAS
I shall do some research, it would be nice if it was from Benares
The Buddha's birthplace. where the Buddha gave his first sermon at the deer park.
Banaras is Benares, Varanasi, a five star hotel.

Hotel: US : The Kirkwood.

Letter from Mrs. Stoddart, wife of Dr. A.C. Stoddart.
I found her 11 years later in the press, when she attended as a special guest at the "Louisiana Purchase Exhibition" 1904

Lucky, no, I don't collect anything specifically about hotels except those located in and around the Elmira, NY area. When I get a chance, I'll scan and post some of the others from the same hotel. It really is interesting to see how the corner cards evolved... and the postmarks from Elmira in the same time period.
