Come to think of it..Argentina sounds like a challenge..forget it with a Scotts International or some similar worldwide album.they may show one illustration of a stamp that Argentina has re issued or reprinted numerous times...i should be able to pick up an Argentina specialized album used fairly inexpensively...i don't want it too full..theres no sense in buying a almost complete collection..the challenge and hunt is done already ! Starting to understand why a chosen few climb mountain peaks !!

There is a new catalogue on the market which I am told is quite detailed for the period 1856 - 2010 with colour pictures. It's called CATÁLOGO DE SELLOS POSTALES ARGENTINOS and is compiled by Daniel H. Mello Teggia who has compiled and published other catalogues before. I believe the going price in BsAs is around 150 pesos (about 3.9 pesos to the US dollar). Most advanced bookstores in BsAs do take overseas orders against major credit cards (US dollars and euros) and I personally have never had any problems ordering and receiving literature from there. Bookstores' URLs can easily be Googled. this is the picture I was sent. Hope this helps. |

Tony, I don't know if I have to go that detailed yet..the Spanish would be a problem..i imagine they have their own catalog numbering system..hope I am not being too negative... |

The points you raise:
1. Details: yes, anything that DMT writes is detailed - a point over which I am still debating as to whether to get one.
2. The Spanish problem: so-so: numbers are numbers and colours need only be translated once. After seeing amarillo or naranja 2 or 3 times the colours yellow and orange will stick. Details, on the other hand, ..........
3. Numbering system: yes, DMT uses his own number system which drives even other Argentine collectors nuts let alone people who have collected all their life along with Scott or Gibbons or Yvert.
Darn, I'm starting to sound more negative than you, old chap! |

I have a copy of that, as well as a 1998 catalogue by Teggia, and on a rough glance it looks like the Jalil catalogue contains more info. However, as a dealer, Jalil's stamp values represent his retail prices, same as the situation with Stanley Gibbons catalogues. Ryan |

@philb Some time ago I was given a quantity of charity issues of Civil War Spain. I had no choice but to make my own album pages - CorelDraw and export to PDF. At first it was rather daunting because the stamps were of six different dimensions and I had no idea how many other dimensions these "stamps" had been printed in. So what I decided to do was to design and print a page for each dimension rather than pages for "series" of issues. I started off by designing a generic page - an album page with headers and footers but no "boxes" - and then fill the page with appropriately sized boxes and save it by a different file-name. So now each time I get a new stamp of a size which I still don't have, all I have to do is measure the new stamp (+ 5mm all around), fill the generic page with boxes and give it a different name. So far it has worked for me ...... |
