Is the stamp value the price of a regular letter to Israel ?
The Israel version is the value of a letter to Canada [up to 100g].

The CAD $1.70 rate is for letterpost up to 30 grams.
Canada has domestic, USA and Everyone Else (including riff raff) rates.

OK Guys..For years I have been a closet selvage remover. This thread and it's erudition has given me cause to rethink my somewhat cavalier position on this issue.

Just a couple of quick comments on this great thread...

NEVER write on a stamp, its selvage, or an album page

I do confess that I have removed selvage to make my album pages more symmetrical. Obviously, with most of the examples you've shown above, the selvage contributes to the design, value, or identification of the stamp. I wouldn't remove those either.

But for an ordinary, modern stamp that will never be rare or above minimum catalog value...

unforyunately you have admited to defacing stamps by removing selvedge so back to the brig :)

I would not call this a life-altering event but, it will cause me to pause a bit to think before just callously tearing off the selvage.

You how the subconscious works, Craig .... before long, you'll be having nightmares about tearing the tabs off Londonbus' Israel Tabs.

Or maybe that is Londonbus' nightmare
