My first guess is that this is not a postage stamp. It is most likely a revenue stamp. What information can you supply about it? Thank you |

Welcome to the forum, halflizard It is indeed a Revenue stamp. Listed in the J Barefoot catalogue under "Chancery Court" catalogue number 24 p16 or 44 perf 14 Occurred when petitions could be brought before the court of the chancellor of the king when the common law courts failed to satisfy. (notably cumbersome and expensive) CV perf 16 50p 1990 perf 14 35p |

A quick check at www.bookfinder.com found three editions of this book listed with publication dates of 1983, 1989 and 2003. Is there a newer edition? ISBN numbers: 0906845424 and 0906845629 page count: 140 and 162 Lizardly. halfliozard |

Following your link shows the cover of the new edition. The denomination of the stamp on the cover is (pound sign) 2.10.0 and this seems unusual to me. Isn't this just another way of indicating two and one half pounds? <two pounds, 10 shillings, no pence> Lizardly, halflizard

Halflizard, No one used to say , or write, £2½ pounds. It was always £2.10s 0d . I think it's the same in many places. I don't see $2½ or DM2½ either....that's how it was.
By the way:
Pound [£] = Left Alt pressed down and right 156 ½ = Left Alt pressed down and right 171.
Philb.....how much do I owe you for the stamp in discussion ?? And has Jopie received her envelope yet ?????
Londonbus1.....Loved the Sterling currency |
