I'm sure this has happened to everybody. I was going through a huge pile of Israeli stamps and out popped this.





I have no illusions and even fewer expectations, but I am nevertheless curious.

That is this? Chinese?

A good argument can be made that every stamp collector should know the symbol for China. It is a rectangle with a vertical line through the center and extending above and below the rectangle. It is clearly visible in the picture above. It is the third character from the left.

Aye; and to the right of the 'China' symbol is an armless stick man that is the people character to key you to the Peoples Republic of China.

Oft times people can waste time searching through China with that symbol,
only to find it lies in the Catalogue under Formosia / Formosa / Taiwan.
