With only a single Greenland stamp in my collection I went to ebay and bid on a lot of 125 different and became the high bidder at the five dollar point but the auction still had two days to run. As I became occupied with other matters and didn't think to check the auction, it ended at over twenty dollars (plus shipping cost). Here I am with a single Greenland stamp in my collection.

How long are you planning to sit there and read all of these dumb slogans?

Yes, illustrating my woeful inexperience,
I bid on an Australian Specialists Catalogue
and absolute snip at $20, and the vendor lives near me.

Someone had "sniping" software, is that what you call it?
It sold for $20.50 and not to me.

I wish I knew how to solve the problem of sniping software. On the other hand I have kept bidding on some auctions well past the highest reasonable price I could justify. Sometimes I get the item and other times I do not. Would it help if I knew the correct magic words?

I have to be very careful not to get carried away on an auction. If it is a stamp that I absolutely must have, then I put one bid and one bid only at the highest price I am willing to pay.

On the other hand, it is fun sometimes to gradually bid up in increments and watch the auction. This works only if you constantly monitor the procedings.

Hi Folks........

I have never used any bidding services.......I place one bid when there is about 8 seconds left.....I win about 85% of everything I bid on. I never feel bad about loosing because I know I can find something just as good or better in a very short time.

Still enjoying the hunt......

I totally agree giving the aging of the collector population.

Interesting note on Greenland Post. All mail posted in Greenland is sorted by Canada Post, on Baffin Island, then returned, sorted to Greenland for delivery. It's a special agreement our two nations have.

Greenland:
From March 11th 1969 stamps carried the name both in
Greenlandic and Danish.
The local name of the country "Kalaallit Nunaat" which means
literally "Land of man"

Aids stamp Year and SG num unknown.

Very interesting Rod. I have also seen the translation as meaning "Our land", which is also the translation of Nunavut, the Canadian territory which Greenland is nearest to.

Also the south Pacific nation of Vanuatu translate to "Our land".

Apologies BeeSee, I took the information from
a response I once had from the late Mette Heindorff.
I was remiss in not acknowledging her. I meant to,
but hit the post button.

Mette has a page on Greenland on the web,
but I am not sure who or where it is now hosted,
Tony Vella may know.
