I promised to post this for a member a while ago,
and just found the image.

These are not the rarest, that is a matter of opinion
by the individual. Every gap in my collection
is a rare stamp, but these are a few of the more
well known.

And who said philately was not a good investment?

Catalogue from Wales circa 1960?

I remember some of the old childrens albums having some of those pictured on the inside cover - it always had me believing I could find them in those cloth mixture bags they sold at Woolworths in the late 60's.

I remember a writer in Gibbons Stamp Monthly on the early stamps of Soruth, many years ago, describing several of these stamps, of which only one example was known, as 'uniquities'. A nice play on 'iniquity', which is how I feel about items destined always to remain holes in my collection.

Yes, I like that Tony,
as I do the vernacular for the
Indian Princely States..."The Primitives"

I have heard (probably gossip) that Ampol Petroleum
when they were promoting their service station stamp albums
and stamps,(in the 1960's ?) they would put a penny black in a selection every so often to keep collector suspense up.

Stamps in Lipton's tea bag boxes. (australia)

Well, how much would a rather chewed-up one margin Penny Black cost? Cheap publicity, I'd say!
