I am not sure but the script looks like an Indian writing, kind of. From somewhere in the Middle East?

A thread without a pic is like a book without a title.

So here she is...Ok I cancelled it when I saw the alert Puzzler had posted it !

It looks like Hebrew but I cannot read it, it's not clear enough.
A closer scan of the wording might help !

That's very strange,
the script under the "10" value tablet looks a little Thai to me.
The last two letters being R and J

I do not read Hebrew, but I can recognize the Hebrew for Israel. The first word in the line just above the 10 is Hebrew for Israel. By first word I mean the word on the left.

Years ago I remember seeing an exhibit of cinderella stamps from the Jewish National Front before the creation of Israel. I quick Google found hundreds of the stamps, but not that one.

Looks like a Jewish National Fund label, 1930's-1940's. Definately Hebrew and Israel in the wording (I don't read Hebrew, but I do recognise certain "letter" combinations to mean certain countries).

This is just great. A wonderful bunch of Stamp detectives doing their best to solve the problem. What a group we have, we should all be proud.

Well done Rohumpy for spotting the word 'Israel' in Hebrew.

David...I would also say around 1930's, but it's not a JNF label. They are clearly inscribed. But I did check my JNF list, just to be sure.

My daughter believes the top line is a saying from the Torah [Bible] with the second line the organization that printed the stamp. The letters are slightly bigger. But they are not clear, and this is due to the poor printing of the stamp. I zoomed in with my IE magnifier, but it only made it worse !

I would also guess that the 10 is the charge made for the label, in which case it would be Mills, but the word below the 10 is written in Lower case which makes it more unusual ! And it's also not clear .

I will do some more checking.

Fun though, isn't it ?
