The islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon are the place to collect if you like ships and boats and fish. There also have some unique wildlife.

The group of islands are a colony of France (even now) and are located to the south of Newfoundland, Canada.

I am not sure of the date on this cover as the postmarks are rather hard to make out.

I don't believe it is correct to refer to the islands as a "colony." Rather, it is a "collectivité territoriale" of the French government.

Thanks Moonbird for the correction. I had read that in Wikipedia but I thought that using the colony word would be OK as I think in some catalogues and on ebay sometimes it is referred to that way. And it has older airmail stamps that are a universal design amongst some French colonies elsewhere. However, perhaps these others are also collective territories too.

Rod, that is a beautiful issue of stamp-label-stamp. I like the hare or rabbit on the right. What does Etangs mean? The Valley of Seven - - - ? I will have to look that up when I get to the library in the next day or two. Year 2005 on the stamp, yes?

David, I have some more that I will share as time permits in other threads.

Just found this return address on the back of a small-sized envelope. Perhaps at the time it was OK to call it a colony and the new terminology is the collective territory? (if I am translating that correctly by guessing at the similarity to English spelling?).

Hey Rod, there are a whole bunch of those stamp-label-stamp or whatever that is in French. One a year perhaps?

Here is 1999, the Place de General de Gaulle courtesy of ebay seller hahnstamps in Germany:

These remind me that I read years ago in a Model Railroader magazine that three model trees placed in a group was the most pleasing to the human eye and consciousness and here we have 3 again and it just works, you know?

Must be hard to get these used too. Normal value and high value together. Similar to some Canada souvenir sheets.

Yes Puzzler, the Triptych has been a favourite for eons,
perhaps the wide angle is closest to normal vision.
Certainly lovely stamps.

Doug, the word I think you are looking for is triptych, which is a work of art divided into three sections. It is actually a greek word. Pronounced "trip-tick"

Those SPM strips are very nice, I will have to get them as I have started a collection of Panorama stamps and sheets.

I'm in complete favour of calling the territory whatever it was when the stamp was issued. If it was a colony, call it a colony.

For example, I don't collect King George V British Commonwealth, I collect King George V British Empire, as that is what is was called at the time.
