This will not be as long-winded as the other 'Festival of Stamps' threads, I guess you've all had a belly-full of that !
Just a few pics of purchases and a reminder [to myself as well as others] that I promised a competition...and it will soon come.

First, I would like to show you what I have been doing tonight. A rather nervy evening that turned out OK in the end. It was the evening I disected a Press Sheet !

I showed a pic or two of a sheet of KGV, Accession M/S Press sheet elsewhere. This had to be seperated as some members here had purchased a share. Tonight I successfully operated on the sheet and those who ordered will soon be receiving their share.

It took me 1˝ hours in all...here is the evidence !

The Full Press Sheet...lovely isn't it.[Except I've scanned it upside down !]

Now the parts !

Look at this lovely Tete-Beche Gutter Pair !

A stunning vertical pair with perforation guidelines and pinholes, printers imprints with title......super-duper.

Beautiful corner copy with colour bars

This one is upside down !

...and finally, a lovely [in my opinion] Tete-Beche Gutter Pair with colour bars, from the top centre of the sheet.

Tomorrow, some Flag Cinderellas and Festival goodies.

Londonbus1...glad that's over !

I think you are an exceptionally brave and giving fellow,
to even attempt such a thing.

I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with "C G"
I haven't seen one of those for quite a while, I wonder how many
members here own one?

Is it a "Bridger and Kay" ?

Well done, Michael. I like those tete-beche pairs. This is ALMOST makes me want to cut up one of two US Legends of the West Press sheets I have. Of course I could only do so as gutter pairs and blocks; no tete-beche are possible.

Well spotted Rod ! Yes it is a Bridger & Kay.
I got one from the former Mr Bridger and Kay himself, Allan Leverton.
Here they are on the front of his table at Philatex recently, in the green card holder.

He had to give me one didn't he! I spent a lot of cash at his table but it was worth it for the company and the elusive items. I'll scan some soon.

Rohumpy......I had a steady hand but still made a small error or two. I went to sleep seemingly at one cutting stage and forgot to measure !
Also, I did not always hold the knife at the right angle, it should have been used more flat but I was worried it would not make a clean cut so pressed a little too hard.

I figured that it wasn't a million dollars here so even if I lose one or two pieces, they can still be used for postage. The whole sheet was only a fraction above face plus postage so I did not worry that much. Even pieces which you see here with a tiny mistake or two, are still well worth going in an album. They look super. And they are also scarce...I cannot imagine too many folk sliced up their Press sheets !

Marty.....If they were not Tete-Beche I don't think I would have even thought about buying one. Only because this kind of issue is almost unknown in GB philately I decided to do it. It was worth it.
All participants will make their money back and then some, if they decide to sell.

Londonbus1.....Still have one more Press sheet to do !

Here are a few goodies I managed to pick up from the guy in the previous post. B&K stamps.

The first two items I have never seen before but have been looking for years....finally they are here !

The first one, in Blue is not listed in the catalogue of Exhibition sheets and stamps, but have seen it offered on ebay once, a long time ago.
1975 BPE, Seymour Hall, London.

This next one without the overprint was issued for Presentation purposes in a quantity of 632. A few came from De La Rue with a red 'SPECIMEN' overprint. It is not known in which direction they went !
I am guarding this one with my life.

The following Strike Mail labels form part of a set of twenty, Pre-Decimals [Jan/Feb 1971]. The service was set up by Bridger and Kay with the blessings of the Post Office ! It was very successful too.
Allan showed me a number of covers and newspaper cuttings from this service. He told a fascinating tale.

I was shown a sheet of the above, a full sheet with 10 sets, and all the text was inverted !! I asked if it was for sale. Thereafter we sat haggling and laughing. I think he had the feeling I couldn't afford it and I thought he didn't want to sell it as it was the only one. I will try again should we ever meet !
Upon decimaliztion, new labels were ordered and produced, this time in full colour. Sadly, I am 7 missing from the set of these but Mr Leverton said he will send me the set if needed.
He showed me a full sheet, which was enormous, in which were many panes of both different countries and the same. Other sheets were printed in different layouts to the one I saw.

And the 'Creme de la Creme' of this offering......missing light blue !

I'm guarding that one too !

Londonbus1....all this guarding leaves no time for stamps

Looks like a successful effort! I can't wait...

The PUC block and the gutter block are super (all of it was, really), and these will be just that much more...

[Don't worry...I won't be using up my quota. This one is just an aberration.]

C.

[Edit: How could I forget to mention those 1975 exhibitions? Superb.]
