On rare occasions I do pay above catalog for classic postage and revenue stamps in exceptional condition (XF).
There were 23 total bids and two other collectors bid above the catalog ($40) so I was not alone:

Catalogue values are for VF stamps and I think most would grade this one XF or XF-Sup.
To me the certificate is worth about $20.
So upon reflection, I think I paid a fair price to get a special stamp which is not an everyday example.

Here is a 30c Franklin stamp (Sc#38) on a cover sent in March 1861 from New York to Bordeaux, France.

Where in (Gods Name) do you get all these great cover from Tom,wow mate I'm stuck in the boony's and never see anything this good,

Nuggethill, I am REALLY in the boonies,its 2-3 hours to any type of a stamp store!

t360, I love the hearts cancel on your Benjamin Franklin. I have been getting into those cancels lately.

Just wondering if you all had included Scott 1687b (2nd from left) in the number of Bens on US stamps.
