How strange! I can't access it now, either. It was working when I put it in the messages. Some of the notifications in the circulars were from UPU members warning about bogus issues, and others (like New Zealand) were informing UPU about their issuing of non-denominated stamps.

Yes, now I remember, I saw that in the past too, Canada also notified them about non-denominated stamps. I sent an email to the UPU about the Forbidden message.

Philby stop teasing me. I often click on Tuvalu BIN lots because some unknown force takes control of my mouse. I think I now have more Tuvalu stamps than the Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau!

Remember what I said in another thread about "you guys are scaring me"? I wish that I had read this thread before yesterday. Though I haven't used the two websites that you mentioned, I was contemplating trying them out much later in the year. Guess I won't until at least the fake matter is cleared up.
I have just stated using Bidstart and particularly dougrugman. I've won some stamps over the weekend. This thread made me realize that I really wouldn't know a original stamp from a fake stamp unless I am a dyed-in-the-wool, professional stamp collector. I always had someone that would steer me in the right direction if there was a stamp that I was interested in. So, I could just as easily become a victim on what I am buying or considering buying because of scams.
Anyone have a frozen pack of peas that I could use as an ice pack for the "in case of's"?

Scams exist. They always will exist.

What I like about forums (fora?) like this is that one can get to know the members a bit, and before trading / selling / buying, you can get some idea about them. In some cases, there are forum members who can vouch for their real-life friends or colleagues. It took me a while to get to this forum, on the suggestion about a year ago from David Giles. David and I are on a show committee together, and he'e now the president of my local stamp club. While we are just getting to know one another fairly recently, there is a lot that each of us can check about the other just by sharing many common friends and co-conspirators. Likewise, if/when I decide to trade, buy or sell here, I will use David as a reference.

Not so with ebay, Delcampe and all the others.

I much prefer dealing with people I know. I have played ebay a wee bit, but never once felt truly "safe" in a transaction. But that's just me.

Peter

Donna, regarding these fake (or "bogus") stamps, we just have to rely on each others knowledge and information posted on this Forum.

Generally (but not always the case), any modern issue inscribed with the names of obscure Russian republics and territories can be considered bogus. However, now on Delcampe there are bogus items from Tuvalu, Malawi, Rotuma and even South Georgia. Some of these may easily be passed as genuine stamps in the future.

I think it is a substance abuse, the substance being stamps.

Well I have to give praise to Delcampe! I have now been informed that the seller Barcik, who was flogging the bogus stamps of Tuvalu and other countries has now been suspended! It is excellent news when you see an auction house does an investigation after receiving complaints and takes action. Bravo Delcampe!

Dear all,

Our reply here took a long time simply because we are in the summer time, our team is really smaller... and I was personally on holiday too, until now.

While my team did already some actions, as you noticed, I have today requested our Collectibles Department to analyze the "Cinderella's" problem. It is not as easy as it may seem... as we should define several categories of items, and for each one decide how to behave.

Note that we already have T&Cs about this, no illegal item (nor stamps, nor anything else) is allowed on our site. All users and visitors are invited to report us illegal items.

Next week, I have a meeting with our Collectibles Dept, and, in the next few weeks, we will take decisions about this and I will come here personally to inform you.

In the meantime, feel free to continue the discussion here, that helps us to collect more information about this situation.

Thanks again.

wow, how did this guy get on here?

Hey Sebastien, you have a seller goes by the name of BattleStamps.... just wanted to tell you, he is a great seller and always delivers exactly what is described...

(shameless plug),, I would be interested if bobby could verify that this account is from Belgium and is who he claims to be. I would be truly impressed.

Sebastien Delcampe is active in other stamp forums, and has demonstrated that he is quite prepared to engage with the collecting community to address issues.

He is who he says he is, and acts upon his undertakings.

I have been buying on Delcampe for longer than I can remember now. If you learn a few search tricks, it is a very good place for the knowledgeable collector.
