I have been reading a lot of topics in this section and all those differing views about the various auction sites. It seems to me that all of them have good and bad points. I have used Delcampe and Stampoffers in the past as well as a couple of smaller places, and found them OK if not particularly busy. This last weekend saw Free listing days on ebay UK and so I stepped up and, despite a hectic schedule of work and babysitting duties, I managed to put on 50 items....not the 99p stuff [well, it was free wasn't it?]. I did not list quickly and wrote plenty of silly things in the descriptions and had some fun. Time will tell if I repeat the exercise. I have a few watchers already but it was only for the fun and experience that I joined in the 'freebie'. Anyone wanting to take a peak can go here and click on 'items for sale' http://myworld.ebay.com/jasanmick33[A free stamp packet for any SCF member who spends £10 or more !] Having mostly sold through forums [like this one] and not much at auction, the next query is about advertising. To all those who sell here at SCF, how do you get your sales across to the wider Stamp Collecting community ??? Thanks for reading. Londonbus1

Some interesting stuff. And, nicely done. Placed a bid. Probably will do a few more. (I'm not sure how you make your listing pop out from the others and as a user of ebay.com, your listings show as part of a truncated list of "international sellers" down at the bottom.) |

Very cool welcome to ebay, I don't sell stamps there but I sell aviation items, I've been on ebay since 2003 their fees are excessive but you can't beat the world wide exposure, and simple search features. my tips for ebay, list for a week, so it ends Friday night or Sat evening 6pm or later of early afternoon sunday. over the years I have found the greatest amount of sales are generated at those times when people are off and surfing ebay for deals then get the bidding bug, they are like no you don't beat me and a bidding war erupts over even simple items. |

Edwin, after returning from a 7 year olds birthday yesterday evening (Sunday) I surfed 4300 Argentina items...i have to laugh at the Argentine dealers...at 3 pesos to the dollar they could get rich charging reasonable prices...i am not going to pay them 9.95 plus 6 dollars shipping for a common cover....but evidently they sell sometime to someone...with 4300 items to choose from I can still find the 99 cent deals(and a dollar shipping is enough) I guess I am a hobbyist and not a business man..i do not like to gouge people for shipping/handling/trip to post office/paypal etc..i figure something back is better than the nothing I used to get before ebay ! |

Quote: If you have good service, fair and quick shipping, good descriptions and good images you will stand out from the pack. Yes. I agree. I bought some Swiss tete beches. The auction closed on Wednesday and only this morning, Monday, did I get notice that it was shipped. That seller won't see me again. |

LondonBus, Your ebay sales look very neat and the description is very nice. Advertising is a complicated issue especially when selling the first time on auction. The easiest and cheapest way is to write to all who bought from you during the past year or two an email with a reference to your auctions. Building a mailing list might take some time but once it's there you can notify others very quickly. Hope this helps and good luck with your sales. |

Bob....email coming. To everyone. It is with great pleasure [ ] that I am able to post here for all to see, my first ebay question [from a 'buyer'] "Dear jasanmick33, why do israelis never obey United Nations resolutions?" ------------------------ Now how should I reply to that I wonder. In a philatelic way maybe ? Maybe the price of the item was too high for him ? Hmmm! Let me think. Londonbus1...shall I offer a prize for the best answer !?? |
