Awhile back someone had up a link to World Stamp News (BTW, signed up for the newsletter and have yet to see one in my email) and on that was this link http://www.worldstampnews.com/links-index/ Now it lists all the Postal Administrations in the world.

I was wondering if anyone has actually requested stamps straight from a country of interest? Was it a hassle in converting the currency? Maybe a hassle just in general?

I have bought from the USPS, is that a foreign country? and have had no problems as they accepted US currency and my credit card did the conversion and paid them from my Canadian currency.

You do pay a charge to anyone doing this currency conversion service, 2.5% - 5% maybe of the total amount, plus the factor of how your currency compares to the currency you are dealing in at the moment.

The hard part sometimes is knowing the language or having someone there knowing your language. The money part is easy. Easy come, easy go. But, hey, this is stamp collecting not the stock market.

I have regularly used the Gibraltar agency on a standing-order basis. I have also made purchases from the U.N., Canada and Australia with no hassles and very good service (better than the USPS, I might add). I always use my credit card so the currency conversion is done by them and fairly. Best of luck to you.

Puz, Are we foreign? I live here and I'm still not sure. We have been known as the melting pot....does that count? As far as language problems...money does talk.

cgrotha, I will keep those postal authorities in mind. I have seen some really nice stamps come out of Gibraltar and Australia. Thanks.
