I just completed spending 7 full days 24 hours around the clock with one fellow collector and almost 4 full days with another..of course we talked stamps and got along without a squabble...the 3 of us love stamps and take them very seriously..but we are not elitists...if a super deal comes along we will break the budget..short of that we I would dare say we are frugal in our collecting and we are content in whats available to us in our price range !

Phil did Bob call you a philatelic elitist? I am personally glad we don't have that kind of attitude here that I see on other boards and forums.

Dude..one of the fellows we visited with was one of the founders of the stamp club on the big internet marketplace...but they soon tired of the place and Stampoffers was founded which was recently taken over by Wensy..he was the one who used the term eletist..they are still over on that other place squabbling...in 1999 I was looking for a stamp chat place and tried that site..they just ignored a newcomer like me and talked over me..no sense hanging around !

Is part of that, that we all have a bit or a lot of the perfectionist in us?

Puzzler, I don't have an answer to your question, but I do know, having learned over the years, that being a perfectionist will drive you crazy.

It is really frustrating trying to be a perfectionist in a very imperfect world. I have very gradually taught myself that all does not have to be perfect, and indeed, can't be.

Pardon the philosophizing, and now I will get back to my not so perfect stamps.

Well, I confess to being an unrepentant elitist ... but I don't mind a bit of slumming every now and then

... and a bit of a perfectionist, too, which is why I adore my imperfect stamps

Indeed! There's hardly enough Barwani to go around as it is. I won't object if you want to collect Bijawar, though.

As a newcomer I can say that I have never had the impression that anyone here is elitist.

Now if someone had accused a member of having a freakishly awesome knowledge of stamps, well, then I would have to agree.

An elitist could be a philatelist, but a philatelist simply has more letters, phil.
