Hello All,

I was looking over my emailed edition of Stamp World today and there was an article about a new set of stamps that honor Ireland's 6 international fashion designers. Well, I took a look at them and I was disappointed. To look at them they were like looking at the ads in the high fashion, glossy editions themselves. I'm sure the honor goes to the designers and the photographers, but to me it had no creativity that I'm use to in a stamp. Stamps are losing the artists touch with pen, ink, water colors and the like. Am I just too stuck in my ways?

Donna

I took a gander at the stamps you were referring to. I have to agree that when it comes to photo-reproduction stamps (that is stamps, where the design was taken from a photograph), they so very often appear to be rather tacky and artless.

I have mixed feelings,
there are a lot of modern stamps that leave me cold,
but I think they are not for us to judge,
The time ingredient is missing,
modern stamps will be judged 50 years hence,
or more, and collectors may find them fascinating.
Of course, the perfection and the mass production
will leave little to study.
