Nice images Swab,
no doubt I have some multiples,
but my current database shows 274 US stamps of the value 3c

The 1933 Chicago century of Progress stamp
shows the identical roman numeral 111 as on your coin.

As a coin collector, I am aware of the 3 cent coin,
although I don't own one.
I had no idea why it was produced though.

omg.. I had one of those once and thought it was a toy coin for an arcade or something.. I threw it away..
I was in my late teens at the time.

I haven't had a chance to hold a good condition silver "trime" and get a close-up look. I do like the design of the coin pictured above,though.

I have been informed by other coin collectors, that the $3 coin (Thang) was created for the same reason, so you could buy 100 stamps.
Apparently I wasn't well accepted, except in mining towns , where it equalled a night of pleasure.
