Hi everyone. The General Assembly of the United Nations designated 1965 as International Cooperation Year. 1965 marked the 20th anniversary of the organisation, the Charter of the United Nations having been signed in June 1945.

The illustration and design of clasped hands within a laurel wreath symbolising peaceful co-operation among nations was used by many member States as the basis for their commemorative issues.

I have these stamps

I've been able to skinny on the whole meaning etc. but I've had no luck trying to find out the names of all the Countries that produced one. Does anyone here have any of these stamps from Countries other than the ones I've shown?

Lucky

There is a British Commonwealth omnibus set. Completing all BC issues would be something like 107 stamps and 2 minisheets.

You can also check out this site:

Go to Existing stamps by topic, chose UNITED NATIONS, then Catalogue mode by year. Most of them are listed in 1965, with a few strays listed in 1966.

Thanks for the link 22crows!! That is a great site. I might have to act like a squatter and camp out there for a few days.

Nice stamps Rod222. When I was in Togolaise my favorite one-liner was "I have togolaise down for a nap".

Thanks for all the help and info.

The BC countries that issued "identical" ICY stamps as part of the omnibus issues were

Antigua
Ascension
Bahamas
Basutoland
Bechuanaland Protectorate
Bermuda
British Guiana
British Honduras
Brunei
Cayman Islands
Dominica
Falkland Islands
Fiji
Gibraltar
Gilbert & Ellice Islands
Grenada
Hong Kong
Mauritius
Montserrat
New Hebrides (British)
New Hebrides (French)
Pitcairn Islands
St. Helena
St. Kitts-Nevis
St. Lucia
Seychelles
Solomon Islands
South Arabia
Swaziland
Tristan da Cunha
Turks & Caicos Islands
Virgin Islands

Another 1-2 dozen BC members also issued stamps, but not identical designs.

In addition, I would estimate at least another 3-4 dozen countries also issued stamps commemorating ICY.

If you cannot find a comprehensive list on the internet, give me an email. It's not that difficult for me to make one. However, I can't do it now because I'm on a road trip.

You have been to Togolaise! wow!
You must have some stories.
Now there's a country who's location and flag was a challenge,
all I knew was it was west coast.
Now I know it was the "slave coast"

On a tangent, in case you are a movie fan,
at my local Video Rental, I am known as the
"foreign film man" because that's my want.

There is a DVD out that centres on that
area of Africa (actually a little north of Togo)
The film is called "Moolaade" and centres around the
practice of female circumcision and the bravery of
women to change men's belief systems.
If you like quality cinema, I would highly recommend
this brave film, but you'll cast a tear.
In my top 5 films I have seen this year.

As long as we're listing them all (or most of them)...

Just in case you might stumble across some of the Commonwealth issues, keep an eye out for Aden, Falklands, Ghana, Hong Kong (especially), New Hebrides (French), Nigeria and Pitcairn. A few of the others catalogue for a few bucks, too. Other suggestions?

I find these are the kinds of issues that are assumed to be catalogue minimums by a lot of collectors. They seem to show up in club auctions as part of page lots and get few bids.

Thanks for all of the listings of the Countries names. As usual, Members here are a wealth of information (thank goodness).
