THE ROOSEVELT COLLECTION. The first exhibition of the personal stamp collection of the late President Franklin Delano Roosevelt revealed a number of die proofs hitherto unknown to philatelists. Among these was the die proof of the 8c. stamp of 1923, which shows a larger head of President Grant and a darker background than that of the stamp issued. Another was a carmine die proof of the $1.00 stamp of 1908. After being- approved, the colour of this stamp was changed to a violet black. These die proofs and many other rarities contained in the late President's United States and Latin American collection, were displayed at the Parke Bernet Galleries, prior to their auction on February 4th and 5th, 1946.
