I am interested in renewing a collecting area that I dabbled in many years ago. That is, collecting covers from arctic and antarctic locations that have current postal facilities and/or agents. I plan to use IRC's for reply postage for the non-US locations. I also know that there are organizations that are dedicated to polar philately and I am also aware that these kinds of covers are available on the philatelic market. What I am trying to find out is how to obtain a postal address directly to a particular overseas postal facility. Any comments or suggestions?

Joel

You lost me.

What has a "particular overseas postal facility" got to do with A / AA mail?

If I recall correctly, some A/AA locations have small local populations or environmental or scientific groups located in these places. Some have postal services. Addresses are available and and I am inquiring about how to obtain those addresses. I would prefer to send for a postmark.

A circulated registered cover from my collection. Sent from aboard the nuclear icebreaker "Lenin" , this cover has a special cancel with date 3 December 1989 which marks the ship's 30 years in operation. Also there is the icebreaker's special P.O's postmark from her Murmansk base with same date.On the upper right hand corner is a rectangular ship's cachet and on lower left hand corner is a cachet which says that "Lenin" keeps the Northern Sea Route "Murmansk - Dudinka" opened round-the -year

"Lenin" is a Soviet nuclear-powered icebreaker launched in 1957, and is both the world's first nuclear-powered surface ship and the first nuclear-powered civilian vessel. Lenin was put into operation in 1959 and officially decommissioned in 1989

If you do a search for Port Lockroy you will see it has a postal service open to the public. Mail is sent from there fortnightly to the Falkland Islands and then on to addresses worldwide. I have a cover somewhere...
