Just a brag post, illuminating a cover I received
out of the blue this morning, from a colleague in Florida,
amongst a swag of floor sweepings.

This is a busy cover.
Ireland to Saginaw Michigan 1963
machine cancel with slogan "a full address speeds delivery"
4 pingin Irish stamp placed upside down,
cancelled "Corcaigh" = gaelic for County Cork.
attracts an auxilliary marking in NY Foreign section
Postage due= "T" =Taxe = postage due 6c
Receives a Pitney Bowes machine generated "postage due" sticker
(my first ever example )

Thanks for listening.

Nice cover Rod!
I have got to get me one of those hexagon T cancels someday.

Rod,
Bee See lives in the tropical part of Canada.
DJD lives in the Brrr part, in the middle.
I live on the Atlantic in the balmy Gulf Stream part where the snow rarely reach 3-4 feet.

Nice cover Rod,

I wonder what the letter rate from Ireland to the US was in 1963. Was this letter underpaid at 4d or did the US Post Office just not recognise that it was an upside-down Irish stamp?

I agree Nigel,
what this forum needs is a postage rates specialist!

The sender going by the name on the reverse
resides in Kalamazoo Michigan, so you would think
he was in Ireland on holiday.
You would next presume he posted the cover at the Cork PO
and surely they knew the US rate.

Was 4 pingin sufficient?
It will take some study, the cover is no longer mine,
It is now up to BeeSee

Rod, the cover arrived today, a real beauty, thanks so much!

I see you mailed it August 19, and it arrived here today, August 23. Not bad service from Australia to Canada!

It will sit happily in my Irish definitives collection! Now to study the rates of the period...

Rod, I have some French Polynesian beauties and Sudan Camel riders plodding your way.

Jolly good BeeSee.
please let us know if you find the rates later.
I wonder if they mirror the UK rates.
