so I'm just trying to figure out if I'm an enigma, I don't really know any stamp collectors outside of my family and they all tell me no one collects anymore that stamp collecting is dead. I don't believe them heck this site proves them wrong, However I'm curious if this hobby more diversified then I think it is.

I don't mean to offend anyone by asking age and it does not tell us who voted what, however I know this can be a sensitive subject so I add an not appropriate answer if it offends you.

I'm just curious how many other people my age are out there on this site collecting, since my friends give me the stink eye when I say I collect stamps.

edwin your poll is all wrong and inappropriate

please revise it so that the option starts at 75 with 2.5 year increments

otherwise you will have all of us in the 75+ category

and if you want me to participate we will need to calculate vulcan years

In the United States, when one goes to stamp shows and clubs it does seem that the population of stamp collectors is aging in general, but there are people in the U.S. who are picking up the hobby. I have run across people who ask, "people still collect stamps?" Philately in the U.S. is just not well advertised and it's a challenge to promote the hobby to younger people who distracted by other things. There are many collectors in the U.S. who have limited contact with organizations or other collectors. Forums like this correct that. Also thanks to the auction sites and Facebook I have discovered the hobby is well and alive throughout the world - people of all ages, backgrounds and from both genders.

Unfortunately, most teenagers are busy nowadays with their video games and TV. Some encouragements should be provided from schools and parents.

SV: as a former Maryland resident, I can help.
Stamp stores:
1. Maryland Stamps & Coins in Bethesda, MD run by the Most family..very nice folks
2. Universal Stamp in Rockville, Maryland - just up the road from the other

Shows:
1. Balpex is the next really big show coming up in Baltimore - next month.
2. Springpex is in Springfield, Virginia - usually in March
3. Bopex is in Bowie, MD in the spring
4. Annapex in Annapolis area - late winter/early spring
...and there's brouses in Laurel, MD and there's a few other big shows I've missed. You are actually in a good area for shows. There's also Dutch County auctions in Delaware if you want to pick up lots

Clubs: Annapolis and Baltimore both have clubs, but I would recommend the Bowie Stamp Club of Bowie, MD. They meet once a week at the Bowie Town Hall, not far off of rt. 50. They also run Bopex stamp show and have tables at several other stamp shows/brouses. I can find contact info if you want.
