While looking at a N.Z auction in the kiloware section there is a description "alternative post mix on paper".

Does this mean that there is another mail posting company using stamps & not just N.Z post?

Yes, there are several. Don't know their names, though.

Thank you tonymacg!

It is very refreshing that the stamp is still looked at with respect!

Goodonya New Zealand for keeping stamps in stamping!

Dave Joll has an extensive listing of NZ Private Postal Services and their stamps, about halfway down on this link:

They're an innovation, but my concern is who is going to catalogue them? If history is anything to go by, Gibbons and Scott may take decades to recognise them as valid postage stamps.

I wonder what our Kiwi friends think about this issue.

I have noticed we have a few new members!

A special welcome as well!

Yes we have a few alternative postal companies. The funny thing is that New Zealand Post still delivers their mail! You can purchase an alternative companies stamps put them on your letters and just post them as usual in the NZ post letterboxes and NZ post will deliver them.
Some companies names: Pete's Post, NZ Mail, Kiwi Post, Croxley, I'm sure I have missed a few - will update later when I get home from work!

Ok... if NZ Post still delivers them, how is money made on both sides?

John I don't collect these stamps just amass them with every other modern stamp to probably sell when I retire; there are just too many of them just like every other country that produces an issue or two every month.

Bee See I think NZ Post charges the companies a delivery fee which is less (because of the volume) than the standard letter rate.

Here are some of the companies: "DX mail" top left and below "Pete's Post" top right "Croxley" middle right "Fastway Post new Zealand LTD" and bottom right "New Zealand Mail" all of which you can see have been delivered by NZ Post. Note that a Pete's Post and NZ post stamp have been used together and also the three stamps on the right are all "Kiwi" stamps with no value. NZ post started this and the others followed suit.

Thank you very much Bruce!

What an amazing cover!
This explains the very different NZ stamps I have been coming across.
The very different perfs.
We have been putting all the NZ stamps in with the world.
It looks like it is a real challenge to sort them properly.
Have been thinking about all this for a while now and still do not know what to make of it all.
To tell the truth it is a bit of a shock.
I do not know whether to be happy for you or not.
But I am sure some Kiwi collectors are really enjoying themselves.

Thanks heaps for sharing. John
