I have been a stamp collector on a very modest scale all my life..in the past 10 years I have been "introduced" via stamp organizations and the internet to folks who have helped me "grow" in my hobby....if you collect a specific area or topic there is probably a group you could join that can aid you....we can only learn so much on our own and life is not endless...lately my focus has improved greatly..i recently got a good buy on the 1928 Argentina airmails..next I am going after the zepp overprints and then the Argentine zepp covers...and I do not plan on increasing my stamp budget...its all FOCUS !!

That is a great attitude Phil. I know for my own collecting, I have learned to be very specific about what I collect, and not just accumulate. I think that collect vs. accumulate is a tension we deal with constantly as collectors. I think as a human beings, we have an almost biological tendency to accumulate (and in my personal opinion and experience it is men who have the strongest tendecy to accumulation).

Phil: I agree with you 100%. I guess what I am trying to say is that I am grateful for you and our fellow collectors for helping me to grow as a collector as well.

Edit: I meant "our fellow collectors" here on SCF, Bob included.

The guy in the running shoes is going nowhere fast.
He is just staying in the one place and running flat out.
He needs to look at what he is doing and focus.

It reminds me that I am a lot like this myself!
