"You must have at least 50 quality* posts and have been a member for at least 14 days to post anything involving buying, selling, or trading."
How can a beginner post 50 quality posts if he knows nothing about stamps? If I post 50 questions about my collection I am afraid I will upset most of you. I can read most of the messages and find that my questions have already been answered. I guess it will be a long time before I can buy and sell anything here. I can understand why this is in place but it is unfair to us beginners.

Yes, ask some good questions. Questions about your own collection, follow-up questions about other people's posts, join in the fun of being a philatelist. It doesn't take all that long. |

I cannot speak for admin, but I would think those rules are in place to deter those who are just looking for a place to peddle their wares. Smauggie is right, it doesn't take long to get past 50 quality posts, and 14 days is just a few naps away. I would suggest just relax, get to know the other forum members, let the other forum members get to know you, post a whole bunch of pics if you can. Don't assume that if you are a beginning, that you have nothing to contribute. I've seen some beginners post some very interesting pics or pose some of the most thought-provoking questions. It's much better for buying/selling/trading when everybody feels more comfortable with each other. k |

Good points and I will try. I just don't want to post stupid questions that have been answered a hundred times. I enjoy this place and respect the knowledge here. I hope to gain some of it. |

No such thing as a stupid question, mark296. Don't worry. Even posting this about the rules is a good reminder to us all. Every once in a while, we get someone who tries to peddle something for millions of US dollars (give or take a few million). Ask whatever questions you have. If it has already been answered, many of us don't mind answering again or providing the link to the old thread. k |

This is a very tolerant group...show some stamps, ask a followup question to interesting posts here and there, the occasional "I like that stamp" and you'll be there in no time.
[edit: I left my reply window open for an hour or so after a distraction...I see its been covered...post away...]

Remember just because a question has been asked and answered. The answer may not be totally applicable to your case. So, Ask away! Sometimes we need refreshers as well. As the others have said we are a tolerant group! Unlike some others I have seen. |

And if you get in a back-and-forth with Spock - you'll be at the 500 mark before you know it! |

Can I add my voice to the encouragement? I have only been a member for a few weeks, and when you start to look around at the variety of thread topics, its very wide. We can all contribute, take the plunge and start a thread yourself - you don't need to ask a question, just post a few pics of stamps you like on a favourite theme, and see what happens. The bottom line here seems to be that everyone enjoys stamps, you enjoy stamps, that makes you an equal, newbie or not. |

Quote: Spock has at least 9 lives..but then "this is a tolerent group!" Does that mean that spock had to have 50 posts per life? Boy, we really are tolerant! Donna |
