Holy sheets!

Nice looking butterflies. Interestingly enough, that Oregon Swallowtail stamp is what rekindled my interest in stamps early this summer. I had been reading about Oregon on the web and saw a picture of that stamp, Papilio oregonius. Found a set of two on ebay and one thing led to another...

A few weeks later, while out fishing for trout on the Clackamas River here, I came upon on a muddy flat. In the middle of the clearing on the river bank, were over 50 of these same butterflies, dancing and having a splendid time in the summer sun. I had been carrying my camera around, with the fishing gear, all summer, but had left it in the car on this trip down to the water. It was really an amazing site to see so many butterflies dancing and frolicking...

Those two butterfly stamps have now made their ways into the wider world: one sent to my nephew in mint condition, though he unfortunately seems to have zero interest in stamps; the other graced a cover sent to my girlfriend, the contents of which was a single copy of the Amelia Earhart airmail...

Oregon is a beautiful place. Almost move there when I lost my job but found work in SC. I am from a small town in Vermont but after 50+ years of shoveling snow I left for warmer weather.
It seem to happen all the time, you have you camera with you always, except when you need it. Question, which one is the Oregon Swallowtail stamp? All of them? Or just one butterfly.

Very nice sheets Mark ,I do have one or two of them too.

Isn't it a great feeling Gaff when you present the fly just right and a big rainbow or brown hits it no more than two seconds later.

Wow I just noticed a white streak on one of my sheets. Looks like it got scraped and ripped of the top layer of three stamps. I guess that sheet is no good.

The yellow butterfly in the top left corner, next to Mr Zip.
Papilio oregonius

Yes, though my fly fishing expertise are few. I have some flies but only a spinning rod right now. I've caught a few small native trout around here on flies. If I want dinner though, it usually involves catching stocked trout on a rooster tail or bait. Soon, hoping to get a fly rod and learn to catch steelhead and salmon!
