HI All

I am just wondering how many of our members in this forum also have spouses who collectb as well?

When I met my wife, she had aquariums with tropical fish. After we were married a couple of years and saw parts of my collection, she asked me if there were stamps with fish and sealife on them. Well, the rest is history. She collects fish and sealife, breeds of dogs and the Vatican.

When I see an expensive item for my own collection, she knows how the temptation goes for my collection as well as hers.

I might add that she has exhibited her topic three times on a national level and won silver each time.

Sometimes my wife likes reading the letters enclosed in some covers. I'm afraid the closest I'll get my wife to collecting is helping me sort loose stamps, occasionally looking up a location and filling out customs forms. When it comes to stamp shows, she would rather wait in the car.

My husband doesn't collect, but he is supportive. He has to be, really, as a large part of my initial collection was given to me by his mother! A man may dismiss his wife, but never his mother. If that's not a proverb in several languages, then it darned well ought to be!

My wife's a stamp collector too. I think it was our third date when I showed her my stamp albums, and she said "You know, I've got a small confession too. I got a pile of those at my place too".LOL. Pretty much there after we've been collecting worldwide stamps together :)

My wife got curious and attended a stamp meeting with me..they put her right to work at the table tallying auction bids..sink or swim ! Well from that she attended a stamp show with me and the rest is history..she went past me like I was standing still..she purchased only the good stuff..Europa forerunners/Europa sympathy issues and of course mills wind and water..thats ok she leaves me alone for the most part..just some constructive criticism at times...i feel bad for my friends whose wives do not understand spending all that time on STAMPS...my wife is always ready to go to a stamp show !!

OK my wife does not collect stamps, but she worked at the Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau for four years, so she knows the importance of keeping stamps and covers in pristine condition.

Hi All

Glad to see so many responses to this thread.

For some years, my wife and I could not make it to many shows but for the past 3 years or so we have tried to get to as many a year as possible.

One other of our collecting interests is postcard collecting. We are planning to attend a show this Saturday at a town called Merrickville, not far from Ottawa. Then, the week after that, we will be in the opposite direction to Owen Sound. It is a lot of travelling time for us but we enjoy the trips. We always make it to the Barrie show as well.

So, to sum up, after so many years of just 1 or 2 shows a year, we now are averaging about 5 or 6 a year now.

What the heck, you only live once <G>

My wife collect covers. Her favorites are the patriotic covers and the advertising covers. No FDC though.

My wife's spouse collects,
and he does a fine job considering the
amount of money she allows him to spend each month.

Hi Philby

I will certainly have to take the Ottawa show into consideration once it rolls around. The trouble with our neck of the woods is always weather. Having said this, it would be really nice to meet some of the SCF members face to face.

Cheers

Funny Rod.

Reminds me of once when I was talking with a friend. Another man passed us on the street and my friend referred to him as his "husband-in-law"

When I asked him to explain the term, he said, "he's my ex-wife's husband -- that makes him my husband-in-law"

Rod, this may not be a very elegant way of putting it, but I always think of you as squeezing every last drop of interest from each little stamp. You certainly get your money's worth of pleasure, whatever your budget. In that, you are my stamp idol
My husband so far has not questioned the amount I have spent on stamps (very little). I keep a tally of what he spends on woodworking tools and VW magazines, just in case....
