I only collect U.S. so, for me, its a lot easier. For my regular postage, I have 9 three ring binders full of 12 row stock pages. I drew a line down the middle of each page giving me 24 positions to place my duplicates. I numbered each position with the appropriate Scott number and I can now place or retrieve any stamp I want. I do the same for my revenues, PNCs and other specialty groups I maintain.

The down side, my collection started out with 95% used stamps and as I upgrade to Mint, I place the used copy back into my stock books. I give away, trade or save for the next generation collector. End result is that I no longer have 1 used copy of a particular stamp.

I sort 'em and place them all in glassines and then into the shoebox it all goes until further notice. I don't have but maybe 100 dupes so I'm already ahead of the game!
P.S.
I only keep them if they're sound.

Thats a great policy to only keep sound stamps...we are the caretakers...we should not pass culls and junk on to future stamp collectors !! As far as managing my duplicates..they control me...they are out of control !!

Because I only collect mint Canadian stamps my duplicates are given a chance at a second life via ebay, if that fails they are put back on the front lines of combat.....and used as everyday postage. Duplicate problem solved.

I don't accumulate duplicates. When I have a bunch I sell them to a lady at the stamp club. She almost always buy them and she resell them visiting the stamp clubs in Montreal. I also sell or auction some on SCF. I guess I would have to be a lots buyer of one country to gather many dupes or to buy a few collections of the same country.
