Hi Everybody, Some of the stockbooks I have are exploding with duplicates. I thought a nice way to let some of them go is to use the Quiz option here onsite, so here we go.... Please identify the following stamp from which this detail was extracted (with a minimum manipulation). State the Country, year of issue and denomination. The quiz is opened until next Thursday 11 PM (Israel time). If no correct answer is given by then - the most accurate one will be announced as the winning one. And for the prize: Some modern Swedish Stamps (shipping is paid by yours truly): Please don't use Scott's numbers as I don't use this catalogue! I hope this will not turn into a too difficult or too easy quiz and that you will all enjoy the exercise..... Avi

Rod - the only changes I have made are extracting a small part of the background (which would have made the quiz into a joke) and converting the picture into grey. However the original detail is 99% grey and black on white, so what you see is essentially what was scanned ! |

It is the vignette from two stamps issued by Cyprus.
The scene is the Church of St. Barnabas and St. Hilarion at Peristerona.
1934 GV ¾ piastre (SG 135 or Scott 127) and 1938 GVI ¾ piastre (SG 153 or Scott 145).
When I have located my copies (give me five minutes), I will post some scans. |

Given the conifer is partly obscured on this one The correct stamp is more likely this one - So the answer is Cyprus 1938 GVI ¾ piastre (SG 153 or Scott 145). |

Wow! quicker than a rabbit on a date. Well done plateflaw (although I had my eye on those Swedes)
I was guessing from the architecture Spain or Italy.
PS: Nice show of generosity Seahorse.

Pleateflow - You are frightening ! The actual stamp I did scan was the KGVI 2 piastres, nevertheless this is the right answer. Please e-mail me your postal address and I will send you the prize stamps (my email is: avi_k2@bezeqint.net)! WOW - I did think this quiz will hold more than 1/2 an hour! I will be thinking of something else for next week |

I haven't really looked closely at this stamp before. Is this plate damage or a crack affecting the 'S' of 'PIASTRE'? |

Seahorse Great concept. I really like how you have neatly arranged the shading where the portrait medallion was situated. Very deft hand with photoshop! I thought I recognised the design. Quickly checked Stanley Gibbons, and here we are! |

Plateflow - here's the copy I have in my album. It doesn't seem to have the 'cracked' "S". There is no mentioning of this flow on SG nor on MurreyPayne's catalogue. As for the JPEG - I did try my best to make it more difficult, and will try harder next week |
