The August Revolution was a nationwide uprising in August 1945 that led to the collapse of Japanese rule and the end of French colonial administration in Vietnam. Following Japan's surrender in World War II, the nationalist movement led by Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh seized power in Hanoi and other major cities. On September 2, 1945, Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi's Ba Dinh Square. The revolution marked a decisive turning point in Vietnamese history and laid the foundation for the subsequent struggle against returning French forces in the First Indochina War. The 20th anniversary of the August Revolution, issued by North Vietnam on August 19, 1965. |

The Nghe-Tinh Soviets (1930–1931) were a series of peasant and worker uprisings in central Vietnam against French colonial rule. Inspired by revolutionary ideas, local authorities in parts of Nghe An and Ha Tinh briefly collapsed and were replaced by village "soviets" (councils) that sought tax relief and social reforms. The movement was violently suppressed but later became an important symbol in Vietnam's revolutionary history. The Nghe-Tinh uprisings, issued by North Vietnam on September 12, 1965. |

The 35th anniversary of the Indochinese Communist Party This set, issued by North Vietnam on February 3, 1965, commemorates the 35th anniversary (1930–1965) of the founding of the Indochinese Communist Party. The stamps portray early revolutionary leaders of the party as well as socialist symbols such as the hammer and sickle and images of revolutionary workers and peasants. The set honors those who organized the struggle against French colonial rule and helped lay the foundations of the Vietnamese revolutionary movement. Le Hong Phong (1900–1942) – A Vietnamese communist revolutionary and former General Secretary of the Indochinese Communist Party who died in 1942 in a French colonial prison after years of harsh imprisonment. Tran Phu (1904–1930) – The first General Secretary of the Indochinese Communist Party, he helped formulate the party's early program before dying in a French colonial prison after being arrested. Hoang Van Thu (1908–1944) – A prominent leader of the Indochinese Communist Party who organized revolutionary activities in northern Vietnam before being executed by the French colonial authorities. Ngo Gia Tu (1909–1935) – One of the founders of the Indochinese Communist Party who died while imprisoned by the French colonial authorities after years of revolutionary activity. Nguyen Van Cu (1912–1941) – A leader and General Secretary of the Indochinese Communist Party from 1938 to 1940, later executed by the French colonial government. The stamps were issued as a se-tenant strip of five. (Some genius cut it in half in order to fit it into his album). Two additional stamps depicting Socialist symbols. |
