The Good Soldier Svejk is a satirical novel by Czech author Jaroslav Hasek, written during and after World War I. It follows the misadventures of Josef Svejk, a seemingly dim-witted but cunning soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army. Through absurd episodes and bureaucratic chaos, the novel ridicules the incompetence of military authority and the futility of war. Svejk's naive obedience often leads to comic situations, blurring the line between foolishness and subversive wit. The unfinished novel became a classic of anti-war literature and a cornerstone of Czech culture.

The 110th Anniversary of "The Good Soldier Svejk", designed by Zdenek Ziegler, engraved by Josef Hercík and issued by Czech Republic on September 10, 1997. The stamps show the classic illustrations by Josef Lada, a renowned Czech painter, illustrator, and cartoonist.

The Slovak National Uprising (SNP) was an armed insurrection organized by the Slovak resistance movement during World War II. It was launched in August 1944 from Banska Bystrica in an attempt to resist German troops that had occupied Slovak territory and to overthrow the collaborationist government of Jozef Tiso. Although the resistance was largely defeated by German forces, guerrilla operations continued until the Red Army, Czechoslovak Army and Romanian Army occupied the Slovak Republic in 1945.

The 50th Anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising, designed by Jozef Balaz, engraved by Martin Cinovsky and issued by Slovakia on August 27, 1994.

General Jan Golian and General Rudolf Viest, two officers commanded the insurgent army during the uprising and were later captured by the Germans and executed.

Fighters with Slovak tricolor flag, and the monument of the Slovak National Uprising in Banska Bystrica. The inscription "To the eternal glory of the sons of France" honors the French fighters who joined the Slovak resistance during the uprising.

The Feast of the Rosary (1506) is one of the most celebrated paintings by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). Created for a church in Venice, it depicts the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child distributing rosaries to worshippers, including members of the clergy and nobility. The painting is renowned for its rich colors, detailed portraits, and masterful combination of Northern European precision with Italian Renaissance influences. The painting is exhibited in the National Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic.

Detail from the Feast of the Rosary, engraved by Jiri Antonin Svengsbir and issued by Czechoslovakia on July 6, 1968.

FDC with commemorative postmark features Durer signature. The cachet is also engraved.

Another detail from the Feast of the Rosary shows Durer on the right with yellow coat, engraved by Ladislav Jirka and issued on November 27, 1971.

What a stamp!!!

To publicize the "World Year of the Struggle Against Racial Oppression, Colonialism, Fascism, and Apartheid," Czechoslovakia issued, on March 18, 1971, a very attractive stamp with a unique design. It was designed by Josef Liesler and engraved by Ladislav Jirka. The stamp was issued with an engraved side tab.

The stamp depicts workers and farmers fighting allegorical figures representing oppression, colonialism, fascism, and apartheid. One of the figures bears a Nazi swastika.

At the lower right, shown upside down, is a figure representing a European colonialist together with native people from the colonies. I scanned this detail upside down for easier viewing.

The tab shows people of different races: an Arab, an African, a Vietnamese person, and a European worker.
