Good morning, eight for today, well, seven and a re-visit.

Mendocino, the re-visit. The two Men-2360s used as receivers on the San Francisco postal card shown on the 7th would be new LKUs. California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 records usage for this CDS as Apr 17, 1882 to Nov 14, 1887. These two are 7 months later.

Potter Valley, in my image file, this cover is entitled Potter Valley Jun 9 1899 illegal usage. Why? That PSE indica is a cut out, it is pasted on. If you look closely, it is not glued on squarely. I had to resort to looking at the actual cover, took a while until I found it.

I collect most of California's Redwood Empire , Humboldt & Mendocino counties, including the RPOs that ran through them. Any town or city I mention is located in one or the other.

Good morning, four today.

Sanel, this office opened three times! Sep 25 1860 to Jan 29 1869, a manuscript postmark known. Aug 10 1869 to Dec 13 1875, cataloged as Men-3470, shown here;

https://goscf.com/t/11887&whichpage=139#840039

Name changed to Hopland. Re-opened as Sanel Jul 13 1889 to Sep 2 1891, name changed to Hopland and is still open. Sanel had two CDSs, California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 catalogs them as Men-3480 used Jul 2 1890 to Dec 16 1890 and the CDS below is Men-3490 but CTP 1850 - 1935 records only Jul 29 1891. The postal card below is 1 month, 2 weeks, and 4 days earlier.

Eureka, a matching pair.

and Point Arena. California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 catalogs this CDS as Men- 3010 with usage from Oct 22 1897 to Jun 11 1907, just like below!

Good morning,
before I get to today, I want to tell the rest of the story of the pair of Advertised and Unclaimed Eureka covers above. They are postmarked with an un-reported post marker. This CDS is larger than the other seven similar markers and is duplexed with Ellipse 51.
Around 1902, Eureka used a larger dial, changed the town name width, (less kerning), removed the space between Eureka and Cal., and used a 3-logo slug; month and day, time, and year (in a smaller font) The usage span I have is from Jun 11, 1902 to May 30, 1908. I'm guessing that Hum-1805 main use was as the counter post marker as all the other concurrent post marked were duplexed with a Doremus D cancel. It's use begins after Hum-1800 LKU and runs concurrent with Hum-1810.

Four today.
