I am pleased to announce ChromaMate V1.0, free software for colour comparison and matching in digital images.

Developed as an aid to identifying and categorising colours in stamps, ChromaMate allows one to sample and average colours from a scanned stamp image for matching against a custom colour library.

Since scans from different scanners, even of the same make and model, cannot be reliably compared, optimal results are achieved by creating a colour library using the same scanner used to scan the stamps.

Once ChromaMate is installed and running, the included help file contains a section on getting started. Furthermore, I am preparing a video tutorial, which should be available in the next few days. I'll post the link here once ready.

ChromaMate may be downloaded here: https://www.thestampweb.com/chromamate

Thank you! I have logged some time searching on various stamp websites and found that overall the quality of said sites lack interactivity, contain broken links, and are generally outdated. This area needs more efforts and resources like yours to grow the hobby and persuade younger members to buy in!

This is an excellent tool. I've been experimenting with it by comparing known stamps against the Stanley Gibbons color key and it produces accurate answers each time. I find it all comes down to where you "pick" the color samples from, but I try to pick from areas that I believe my eye naturally observing the stamp would focus on to determine color. Excellent job!
