July 4 is Independence Day in America. The flag shown is a copy of the flag Francis Scott Key would have seen while imprisoned at Fort McHenry. Francis Scott Key wrote the national anthem - The Star-Spangled Banner.

Hope everyone has a great Fourth of July.

Two for today.

Mendocino, posted twice, a cropped version on 7/4/2015, and both sides on 7/4/2017. One of my favorite RPPCs as it shows a typical summer day on the Mendocino Coast. When it gets hot in the inland valleys, the marine layer moves in and fog comes with it.

and Elk.

I collect most of California's Redwood Empire , Humboldt & Mendocino counties, including the RPOs that ran through them. Any town or city I mention is located in one or the other.

Twelve days by airmail

1940 - Nassau, Bahamas to Louisville, Kentucky, USA

1937 - On board the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot-Stuyvesant to Brussels, Belgium

Postage paid with a stamp from British Guiana, taken off the steamer in Trinidad before being forwarded to Belgium

Georges Blin (the sender) was a French writer and scholar who spent May 1942 to October 1945 at Lycées Gouraud in Rabat and Sainte-Aulaire in Tangier as a teacher.
