Is that why hundreds of pages have been written about many of the individuals or events depicted on stamps, and not a single page has been written about the common boring stories behind most covers?
This is the original etching on which the Van Diemen design was based. Note the absence of shoulders, the cylindrical neck, the flat chest, the nine-inch-diameter waist, the swollen right arm with its tiny hand, and that giant left hand. That's how Chalon painted Victoria, and he still got appointed "Portrait Painter in Water Colour to Her Majesty".
