I am asking out of curiosity, not because I disagree with any opinions.
Regarding Italian states - in particular, the Tuscany 3l stamp in question. How consistent are the printings of Typographic stamps?
I'm not too familiar with the art of printing, but I've used my buddy's vintage printing press and find the whole process of arranging typefaces and frames to be quite challenging. Did they simply change out font for the numerical values or did they create a typeface for every stamp value? I can imagine a scenario where letter spacing, frames and vignettes being disturbed, creating inconsistencies in printing.
The link to the Italian postal history site is fantastic, btw! I've barely dipped my toes into collecting Italian States and have never took the time to research my stamps (the Scott catalogue is worthless for research purposes). I am going to enjoy it!

Forged Bergedorf 3 Schilling that I got for 3 bucks. The outer beads should be touching the inner pearl ring. Genuine: |

Cert from the 90s maybe? PF was well known to generate certs for some dealers based on the dealer description during that era. |

Quote: If stamps can be forged, can't certification be forged too? Of course! But if one was to go to the PF website and search for Certificate # 619669, the PF Search comes up with no items found. http://pfsearch.org/pfsearch/If perhaps you were to simply search for PF Certs from the country of "Hawaii", the 8th result just happens to be our friend Cert # 619669. http://pfsearch.org/pfsearch/pf_grd...lledfrom=lkpAnd so you are able to see PF's own system shows it is an actual cert and you can verify they opined on this specific stamp. You then have to decide whether their opinion was correct or not... |
