The Most Terrible Forgery I Have Seen Today.

A well known seller is offering this: Does he know it's fake? Not
an expenive stamp but nevertheless...starting price; $0.01
1st fake,2nd real

My surmise. He knows. $$

Very common on e bay...seller asking an offer $74.97 He writes below:
"Authenticity of all positions exposed on sale, is checked up by the seller" I thought he meant the authenticity is checked by the buyer, but no.Does he belong to the APS ?

How cn uountell theynre forgeries?

Through study. There are libraries on forgeries and fakers. They been around as long as collectors have. Books about them, almost as long.

Bogus tax supplement "T" in triangle. Usage after 1 jan. 1876.The journal is from 1872..No ring cancels

The 1fr on piece is a clinic by itself.

- 4 face scrapes, at least.
- Lower right with paint/coloring, to hide more face damage and conveniently covered by a cancel.
- The main cancel on the stamp does not align at all with the part on the backing paper.
- The ink on the main stamp cancel does not match that on the backing paper nor does it match the ink on the lower right corner cancel.
- Note the "fog" around the cancel on the backing paper and the lower right cancel. This is dithering from an old home computer printer where the image used to print them still had a trace of background color. Greater magnification would show a spray pattern in and around the cancel lines.
- Alberto Diena signature is a fake but could fool a casual viewer quite easily.

I would call this stamp a strange fake.This is offered for sale as
a forgery.Ok that's fine,no problem.When I examined the photo;because I do that most of the time I found something very curious going on
in the upper left corner ornament.It seems that it was photoshopped
and pasted on.The lower right ornament is completly identical.So he
pasted the lower ornament in the place of the upper ornament.Too hide
a fault or defect? photo's below:

The cover is posted in the town of Menton.It bears a 40c Yt.38 with
a numeral cancel 2316 that of Menton.The only problem is that the small
numeral lozenge cancel belongs to the town of Oissel-sur-seine.Menton's
small numeral lozenge cancel was 4220.Only the Large numeral lozenge
cancel carried numeral 2316.
Stamp Yt.38 with a lozenge cancel on cover from Menton can be worth more.Hence the 89,50 euros starting price from this seller.
It looks like the original stamp was removed for some reason and replaced by the 40c.Around the stamp odd water stains..?

Looking through Sweden City post stamp listings bumped into this
forgery.Seller does not know it's a forgery?Seller describes this
as Official reprint when the plates of the first issue were identical
