Need To Know If These Stamps Are Real Errors And Worth Certifying

As others have said more or less, there are some Countries that carry a reputation when it comes to philatelic shenanigans and manufactured value ("errors") and Liberia is right at or very near the top of the list.

Bileski has been mentioned more than once for good reason. He enterprisingly created a market. Many "errors" of Liberia were intentional and exist in numbers that outstrip demand. Others "escaped" the printer.

It is a highly specialized area best described as a minefield. Any suggested sales values should be taken with a grain of salt. Use the ebay advanced search to find sold results. Those are real market numbers, not wishful thinking or trolling for suckers.

PS: The part imperf block with the SON cancel is obviously made for collectors.

They are embossed and pass the uv test also. I have had experts look at them and say they are not fake. I have had experts say that they are fake. So are the fake or real? And I've been on ebay, no one has the exact ones I have, they are different which you know changes everything. So......... I still don't have answers, some of you say fake, some of you say real.

No-one has been rude. Did the Liberian Philatelic Society have any comments? If not, perhaps you need to have a punt on cetification for your peace of mind.

I can't see how anyone would want to fake these rather dreadful looking stamps! They were printed in various shades of green. The various shades including mustard also appear on both Liberia stamp websites with no reference to them being fake.

Do you have any proof please floortrader?

CMF, the block of CTO stamps in sheets are often available on ebay, search for Liberia 1897 sheet. There is one for sale at the moment for $21. OK, yours has a missing column of perfs but as I said Bileski purchased all of Perkins Bacons waste stock so it would be from here so has little monetary value.

While yours in particular may not come up, which I knew, it shows a snapshot of the price range of such Liberia material. They begin at a price of 50 CENTS going up to a mid and upper tens of dollars for high quality inverts. Most sold in the single digit range, without what was right of the decimal point.

Should you pay for a certificate and receive a "genuine in all respects" opinion, you will lose more money if you sell as you will not recoup the cost of the certificate for each item. Why? Demand in this area is thin compared to supply keeping prices quite low and stock retention time quite long.

Now from an EFO production understanding, Liberia as well as some other areas are cheap ways to document what can go wrong in production, even if the particular example were made by design and not accident.

The imperf between are likely, as expected, some of the many made for collector 'errors' produced. What you can sell them for is based on whether you can find a collector who is specializing on that particular issue. It's not unusual enough to have a big price tag on it. The 22 on $1 example is a listed variety, with a catalog value of a couple of dollars IIRC. The inking is not unusual, they didn't put a lot of effort into making them and it shows with slightly unmixed colors as yours seems to have. It doesn't look to me like the color changes are ffrom fading post printing, but could be.

Too busy with all the material I recently purchased from Kelleher Auction from the"Bud Hennig ,German Inflation Period specialized collection " I hope to have one of the best reference collection outside Germany. All the material that I am working on is spread all over two desks and on the floors around those desk .

This was my fourth time trying to purchase this material in my life . First was when I purchased Bud's German Colonies collection thru Richard Drews 1998 , second time was thru his wife at the Park Forrest Stamp Club . Then after he died thru Ken Martin of the APS when he came to Chicago to pick up Mr and Mrs . Hennig donation to the APS .
This month it was up for auction and it was the last possible chance to get it ,so had to dump my stock holding in Disney stock and out bid others to see this stuff get to be on the floor next to my desk , and it's here now .

Trading Mickey Mouse for German hyperinflation was NOT on my bingo card.
