Good morning, six for today. Upper Mattole, This office was open for 72 years, opened Dec1 1871 and closed Apr 30 1943. California Town Postmarks 18850 - 1935 records this CDS as Hum-4910 used from Jul 24 1888 to Mar 26 1894. The strike below is 4 years and 11 months earlier! Posted 8/13/2015. Ukiah & San Fran. RPO, Aug 86, 1895? The date is confusing. We'll check the back. Here we are, Aug 13th. Fruitland, Blocksburg, Grizzly Bluff, on a RPPC of the Pacidic Lumber Co. mill at Scotia. and Fishrock, |

Good morning, just two today. In 2015, August was my busiest month, I posted 58 covers and cards. 14 days into August, these two entries bring my August total up to 80 covers or cards already posted. Mendocino has 3 fancy postmarks, Men-2345 thru Men-2360. Cataloged as Men-2350, this is Mendocino's 2nd octagon CDS. Men-2340 has only one-use date listed, May 6 1875* In California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 the asterisk indicates an approximate date. Men-2360 is their Town and County CDS. Eureka, on a RPPC of Eureka's business section, according to the message. Looks like J. A. Meiser (the photographer) has trouble squaring his photo on the card. |

Good morning, six for today. Iversen, Reg was posted 8/16/2015, front only but the back shows Santa Cruz SCR-1630 Aug18 1907 which is 2 years and 6 months earlier than the only other recorded use. In a personal note, this town was named after my grandmother's great uncle. SCR-1630 is a large Registered Clock, 2c 32 23.5 mm 10L. Although California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 only lists Feb 2 1910 as a use date, it is rated a 2 on their rarity scale. Quite ornate, but you'll have to turn your head to see it. Eureka & Scotia RPO, Fort Bragg, Having a problem with this file; it was scanned 7/11/21 but I lost scans from 7/1/2019 to 8/29/2019 when I transferred the scanned files to new computer. It was posted twice on 12/7/2014 and 8/19/2015 but cropped both posts. Here's the crop. Fortuna, posted 8/19/2015 Longvale, and Willits. Edit; changed a t for a n (that to than) |

Good morning, five today. Fort Bragg, Comfort, inbound Redwine, can't read the origin CDS, but Redwine used their Doane to give us a date. It was 8 days in the mail stream. Elinor, an 8 year town, opened May 1 1906 and closed Jan 15 1914. CTP 1850 - 1935 lists two postmarks, Hum-1540, a Doane used up till Jun 9 1911 and Hum-1550 which has Jun 8 1912 as it's only use date. and Arcata & Elinor RPO. |

I should have included this in my earlier post. Instead, I'm replying because it's too much for an edit. Here a quote from my Jun 22 post earlier this year, here: https://goscf.com/t/11887&whichpage=161#852479Quote: Arcata & Elinor RPO was supposed to supersede Eureka & Scotia. The Mobile Post Office Society catalog gives Sep 29,1911 as the beginning of Arcata & Elinor and Jun 24,1914 as the end date. Eureka & Scotia was still postmarking mail on Jan 7, 1913. The Atcata & Elinor Aug 17 1914 postmark in the previous post is 14 days after the earliest Arcata & Dyerville I have, shown here, 4th of the 5, https://goscf.com/t/11887&whichpage=167#853877I wonder if such an overlap was common or did the RPO crew misplace the new RPO post marker? There must have been more than just one device as the Arcata & Elinor Aug 17 1914 postmark says TR12. |
