One of the public utilities serving my home charges a $1.25 "convenience fee" for paying them by ACH. While it's a lot less than their 3% credit-debit card fee, it will be interesting to see whether that fee ticks up as check usage declines (or they refuse them) and e-payment becomes exclusive. In other words, if you have to use their electronic payment channels, they can set almost any fee they want.
Yep, a doctor's office at which I have been a patient just notified me that moving forward, they'll be charging a fee for using a credit card, but they clearly stated I can pay with cash or a check for no extra charge.
