Show Your US 1847 Issue Stamps & Covers

1847CensusTaker, I have a copy of the left pane sheet and a copy of the Perry Plates that I got from William Crowe. The trifoil image would not help with the above stamp since it has no guide dot in the first column of both sheets. I have been adding right pane images recently to the right pane. I still have more plated images to add. take a look at the recent additions.

Jaxom100, good point about the lack of guide dots for the 1st column. That's why the horizontal position of lower right corner of the partial image of the stamp above the one on cover is helpful. With very precise measurements, the correct plate position could probably be determined.

jaxom - I will see if I can get a better image.

Mark S - great work on the cover census, that is a very valuable resource that I and others use a lot.

Do you have any current thoughts on the likely number of remaining 1847 covers out there and what percentage coverage you might have? I know these numbers are hard to estimate, but in some instances its doable depending on what we know about survival percentages...vs total printed, etc...

This was my other lot I won at the Americana Stamps auction, a #1d Brown Orange that interested me since it has a Fall River CDS, which is not very far from me. It is a 2.5 margin example which does not detract from it's use and appeal in my eyes. It also included a fresh PF cert, which for the hammer price in total made this purchase very reasonable.

Regarding Fall River, Mass. -- whenever I hear that town's name I think of the infamous Lizzy Borden murders -- albeit those happened in 1892 -- so ~45 years after your cover was posted.

What a great 5 FLS lot that a won at Seigal a few months ago.
This was one of the gems. I love great finds like this, and to think
absent of the file fold, which isn't bad at all. that stamp would have been lifted. but because of that and being misidentified it survived.

Neat. Its good to see someone doing detailed write-ups on their album. I always enjoy researching multiple aspects of a cover(i.e. stamp plus postal history)

that I decided to make my own custom pages and document
all of this information, if there is a cert, census, pedigree, history,
plate position, shade, variety and content. researching is fascinating
and it really compliments the artifact and page. In the event of a untimely
death, my family will not go nuts trying to figure out what it is, its value
and where to go and who to contact. also they are all retail ready.
